John Ritter Children: How Jason, Carly, Tyler and Noah Continue His Legacy

John Ritter built a remarkable career by making people laugh, but away from television sets and movie cameras, being a father was another important part of his life. The Three’s Company star had four children, Jason, Carly, Tyler and Noah, and more than two decades after his death, each has taken a different path while continuing to carry a connection to their father’s legacy.

John shared his three oldest children with his first wife, actress Nancy Morgan. Jason was born in 1980, Carly followed in 1982, and Tyler arrived in 1985. John later welcomed Noah with his second wife, actress Amy Yasbeck, in 1998. John died suddenly on September 11, 2003, at age 54 after suffering an aortic dissection.

Jason Ritter Followed His Father Into Acting

Jason Ritter is John’s eldest child. He was born on February 17, 1980, in Los Angeles and grew up surrounded by performers. His mother, Nancy Morgan, was an actress, while his father was already becoming one of television comedy’s most familiar faces.

Jason’s introduction to acting happened very early. At just six years old, he appeared in the animated Christmas production The Real Story of O Christmas Tree alongside his father. Years later, Jason jokingly admitted that John had clearly helped him get the role.

As he became older, though, Jason worked to build an acting career of his own.

After studying at New York University, he began taking on increasingly prominent film and television projects. One of his early recognizable movie roles came in Freddy vs. Jason in 2003. John proudly discussed his son’s developing acting career shortly before his own death.

Jason later appeared in series including Parenthood, Girls, Raising Dion and A Million Little Things. His performance on Parenthood earned him an Emmy nomination.

More recently, Jason has had an important role in CBS’ Matlock as Julian, the former husband of Olympia and the son of the law firm’s senior figure. The series continued through its second season in 2026.

Jason Ritter’s Wife and Daughter

Jason is married to New Zealand actress Melanie Lynskey, known for projects including Yellowjackets, The Last of Us and Heavenly Creatures.

The couple began dating in 2013 and became engaged several years later. They welcomed a daughter in December 2018 and later married.

Jason and Melanie have generally kept their daughter’s identity out of the public eye. They occasionally share amusing stories about parenting, but they have made a clear effort to give her privacy.

In 2026, Jason revealed that their seven-year-old daughter had asked whether it was okay if she did not want to become an actor. Both parents quickly assured her that she did not need to enter the family profession.

Carly Ritter Chose Music Instead of Acting

John Ritter’s only daughter, Carly Ritter, was born on March 1, 1982.

Unlike Jason and Tyler, Carly did not primarily pursue acting. Instead, she found her creative identity in music.

That career choice also connects her to another famous member of the Ritter family. John’s father, Tex Ritter, was a celebrated country singer and actor who became a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Interestingly, Carly did not grow up completely immersed in country music. She has explained that her father had moved toward rock music after hearing plenty of country music during his own childhood.

Carly eventually became interested in traditional country and American folk sounds on her own.

She released her self-titled album Carly Ritter in 2013 through Vanguard Records. The record drew heavily from classic country, folk and Americana influences, giving her a sound quite different from the entertainment careers of her father and brothers.

Although Carly has not released albums at the same pace as full-time touring musicians, she has continued writing and performing.

She has also devoted time to advocacy work and charitable causes.

Carly remains connected to the John Ritter Foundation. The organization’s recent records list Carly Ritter Rappold among its board members, alongside Jason and Tyler.

Her work provides another example of how the Ritter family legacy extends beyond acting.

Tyler Ritter Also Became an Actor

Tyler Ritter was born on January 31, 1985, making him John and Nancy Morgan’s third child.

Like Jason, he eventually became an actor, but his route into the profession was not immediate.

Tyler attended the University of Pennsylvania before spending several years teaching in Argentina. It was there that he met filmmaker Leila Parma, who later became his wife.

After returning to the United States, Tyler began seriously pursuing acting.

His television credits have included The McCarthys, Arrow, NCIS and Young & Hungry. He has spoken openly about how watching his father enjoy acting influenced his own decision to enter the profession.

John died before Tyler had fully established himself as an actor, which has made his father’s influence feel different from Jason’s experience.

Tyler has said his father showed him that work could genuinely be fun. Rather than seeing acting simply as fame or a career, he remembered watching John enjoy the process of performing.

Tyler has also remained actively involved in preserving his father’s legacy. He continues to support the John Ritter Foundation and has attended fundraising events with other family members.

Tyler Ritter’s Wife and Son

Tyler married Argentinian filmmaker Leila Parma in 2007.

The two met while Tyler was living and teaching in Argentina, years before his television career gained momentum.

They welcomed their son, Benjamin Parma Ritter, on June 11, 2017. Benjamin became John Ritter’s first grandchild.

Tyler tends to keep his family life relatively private, although he and Leila have occasionally attended events connected to the Ritter family.

In 2025, Tyler appeared alongside John’s widow, Amy Yasbeck, at a public event supporting the family’s charitable work. Such appearances have shown that John’s children and Yasbeck remain connected through efforts to honor his memory and raise awareness about aortic health.

Tyler is now 41, and his career reflects the same balance seen elsewhere in the Ritter family, entertainment remains important, but much of his personal life stays outside the spotlight.

Noah Ritter Lives a Much More Private Life

Noah Lee Ritter is John’s youngest child and the only child he shared with Amy Yasbeck.

Noah was born on September 11, 1998.

The date later became especially painful for the family because John died on September 11, 2003, which was Noah’s fifth birthday.

Unlike Jason, Carly and Tyler, Noah has largely avoided an entertainment career and public attention.

Public social media activity has been minimal, and Noah has generally remained away from interviews, red carpets and celebrity coverage.

Still, Noah has occasionally appeared with the family in connection with the John Ritter Foundation.

The foundation’s 2025 annual report noted that Jason, Tyler, Noah and Amy Yasbeck competed together on Celebrity Family Feud as part of a team supporting the organization. Their appearance helped raise $25,000 for the foundation’s work.

That participation showed that even though Noah prefers privacy, the connection to John’s legacy remains important.

At 28, Noah continues to keep personal and professional details largely out of public view.

How John Ritter’s Children Keep His Legacy Alive

John Ritter’s children have never needed to recreate their father’s career to keep his memory alive.

Jason and Tyler became actors, but both developed careers based on their own roles and interests. Carly found a different creative outlet through music. Noah chose privacy rather than following the family into entertainment.

One thing still connects all four siblings: the impact of losing their father so suddenly.

The John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health grew from that tragedy. The organization works to improve awareness of thoracic aortic disease, support research and help families better understand risk factors and warning signs.

John’s official foundation notes that all four of his children have worked with Amy Yasbeck in supporting its mission.

For Jason in particular, his father’s death has continued to shape how he thinks about family and time. He has spoken about the strange absence created when someone with such a large personality suddenly disappears.
